‘Adi Kailash’ is considered Lord Shiva’s oldest abode. Among the five abodes of Shiva ‘Adi Kailash’ is situated at a fair altitude of 6310 mt in the Himalayan mountain range in Pithiragarh district of Uttarakhand, India.  Adi Kailash also referred to as Shiva Kailash, Baba Kailash, Chota Kailash, Jonglingkong Peak, or Little Kailash is in one or the other way a replica of Mount Kailash in Tibet.

At the very foot of Chotta Kailash in Gauri Kund reflects its entire expanse. Yet another water body closed by is called Parvati Sarovar. Also known as “Mansarovar” it is much smaller than the original one. A temple dedicated to Shiva and Parvati is there at the shoreline.

As per mythology, Ravana is the Biggest Follower of Lord Shiva. Ravana comes from south (Lanka) to the far North Adi Kailash to pray Lord Shiva. Adi Kailash popularly known as Chotta Kailash is a holy place on an ancient pilgrim route in the Himalayan Range close to the Indo-Tibetan border. It is similar to Mount Kailash in Tibet in its spiritual significance. Though in a very remote area, the Darshan (view) of Lord Shiva’s abode is well worth the effort it takes to get there. It is an area of great natural beauty, peace, and serenity.

The ideal weather to conduct the Adi Kailash tour is Mid-May to October (except July & Aug – monsoon weather) as the temperature is good and monsoon falls in between this schedule and the region is prone to landslides.

Summer: Summer months May and June is the best time to conduct the Adi Kailash. The sun makes the region a bit warm and the chilling area of Adi Kailash and trekkers find it easy to settle and acclimatize with the environment.

Monsoon: During the monsoon season of July and August, the entire terrain gets slippery and climbers find it very difficult to commute on the route.

Spring: September& the beginning of October is beautiful springtime good and scenic to make way to Adi Kailash. The bright Sun and Tranquil atmosphere make it ideal for the tour.

Be sure to bring warm clothing as nights and early mornings can be quite chilly to downright cold. Women Pilgrims strictly no Sari. Bring all the film, medicine, cosmetics, personal toilet items, etc. that you will need from home as these are difficult if not impossible to obtain on the way. A small first aid kit is also a good idea.

Winter wear: Down jacket, raincoat or windbreakers, thermal underwear, Jackets, warm trousers & woolen shirts (cotton will also do), warm sweaters, woolen gloves, sun hat, comfortable shoes, light leather boots in case of snow, woolen balaclava (‘monkey cap’) & scarf/dust mask to protect your eyes & nose from dust.

This is one of the toughest high-altitude tours. You Must be physically fit – no two ways about that. Generally, patients with asthma & heart problems have a problem acclimatizing to high altitudes. In your interests, it is essential you should be examined by your doctor to know about your health condition and your ability to cope up with the rigors of high altitude travel for days in ‘no road’ conditions, extreme cold, dust, trekking to an altitude of 19500 ft.

As you are traveling over high terrain, you are likely to experience symptoms and discomfort of altitude sickness (headache, loss of appetite, nausea, exhaustion, sleeplessness, breathlessness, etc.) until your body adjusts to the elevation. This can take a couple of days or more depending on the individual. Drink plenty of water, be calm, and do not exercise. Do not drink alcohol or smoke prior to and during the tour. We also recommend you carry a strip of Diamox tablets. Do consult your physician on the dosage.

Our associates will put every effort to make your journey smooth and pleasant. We shall not be responsible for any change and alteration in the program due to unavoidable circumstances such as landslide, road blockage, flood, snow, political unrest, and cancellation of flight, delay arrival, sickness, or accidents. Any extra cost incurred thereof shall be borne by the clients on the spot.

If you fail to join a tour, join it after departure, or leave it prior to its completion, no refund can be made. Unused services for transfers, tours, and hotel accommodation are not refundable.

It may take more than said time/days. Extra days will be charged @2500/- Per person per day.

The Company in no way shall be responsible for Flight / Train Miss, Any loss, injury, or damage to person or property in connection with the transportation, caused by acts of strikes, pilferage, breakdown of machinery, accidents, Snowfall, etc. All Sightseeing depends on Permits, weather & road condition.

Adi Kailash: Adi Kailash is also famous as Shiva Kailash, Baba Kailash, Chota Kailash, or Jonglingkong Peak, a mountain situated in the Himalayan mountain range in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India.  The abode of Lord Shiva popularly known as Adi-Kailash is in the Indian Territory, close to the Indo Tibetan Border. As per the mythology, Adi-Kailash is worshiped as the abode of Lord Shiva and has been considered the most sacred and revered mountain range in the world.

‘Adi Kailash’ is considered Lord Shiva’s oldest abode. Ravana is the Biggest Follower of Lord Shiva. Among the five abodes of Shiva ‘Adi Kailash’ is situated in Kumaon Mandal in Uttarakhand.

OM Parvat: It’s a miracle of nature, the shape of the valley & peaks forms natural OM. One can see white (Snow) OM on black background. No hypothesis, no assumption, & no imagination are required to visualize OM. OM-The symbol and guide to meditation connecting Man, God, and the Universe Chanted at the beginning and finale of all proceedings, extolled in the Upanishads as the best and most effective symbol of God. Om Parvat can be seen en route to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from the last camp below Lipulekh Pass at the Nabhidhang Indo-China border post guarded by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, which also houses the Public Works Department guest house on the Indian side. Many trekkers of Adi Kailash often make a turn to see Om Parvat. Om Parvat is located near the NabhiDhang Camp on the Kailash-Lake Mansarovar Yatra route.

From Navidang’s “Aum Parvat” the miracle of nature is clearly perceptible. Snow lies on this mountain in the shape of a perpetual “Aum”, the primordial sound. All other slopes may be bare but this inscription in the snow is everlasting and as one observes it, one gets the feeling that the mountain itself is Lord Shiva incarnate

    Important Pre-Departure Information

    Important information about Homestay

A homestay is a sort of ‘home away from home’ where you get to live with a family for a couple of days and stay in their home, share meals and even help out with daily activities if you’d like. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in local culture.

The homestays in this tour are very basic, the homes are made of stone and timber and roofed with slate tiles and most of the families eat vegetarian food on a daily basis, as meat is hard to get in such a remote region. You will also find a common toilet (Indian style) in most homes. The family will do their best to make you feel at home and will provide you with basic but delicious meals and sufficient bedding to keep you warm at night.

While staying with a family in a homestay, do remember to be respectful of their culture and traditions, do join them for meals, help out in the house if you can, and don’t hesitate to mingle and make friends.

These homestays are basically village homes, with one of their portions converted into comfortable guestrooms. These have been developed by the locals to generate an alternative and sustainable source of income for themselves.

Most travelers who have been to this region recommend staying with a local family in order to learn about their ancient, cultural lifestyle, which interestingly has not changed for more than a thousand years. Another reason for this recommendation is the scenic vistas one can enjoy from these homestays, especially the fertile green crops with snow-clad mountains.

The guestrooms on offer at these homestays are kept properly clean, brightly coloured, and decked with local handicrafts. They feature traditional type wooden beds with comfortable mattresses that are placed on the wooden bed. The blissful feeling of waking up and looking at the beautiful environs outside simply cannot be described in words.

Since these homestays are isolated rural homes, much should not be expected in terms of modern comforts; amenities are more of basic and minimal nature. On request, a bucket of hot water is provided for bathing while toilets are supposed to be shared with the host family. Laundry and telephone services may or may not be available, while electric supply tends to be irregular.

Electricity supply tends to be irregular, offers limited power for charging phones and other necessary equipment. Please carry a handy flashlight/torch with extra batteries. However, they do provide candles and solar torches for your comfort though.

Carrying your own towels, soaps and other toiletries will help us avoid the wastage of gallons of water that goes into washing, and in minimizing the use of chemicals in the form of washing powder, etc.

There are no TVs in the rooms, but there is plenty of natural beauty around to keep you entertained. Wifi is not available.

As a guest at these homestays, one can get involved in the day-to-day activities of the villagers, such as farming and animal herding. Those interested can also take cooking classes from the homemakers.

Another wonderful reason for staying with the locals is that one gets to eat delicious home-cooked food. The culinary tradition of Kumaon is deep-rooted in growing food organically and most of the recipes use items that are either found naturally in the Himalayas or are cultivated locally. Himalayan food is very simple but extremely nutritious. For generations, people here have mastered the skill of bringing the bio-diversity of the Himalayan ecosystem to their plates. Using the medicinal herbs and spices found here, their cuisine has evolved into a perfect blend of taste and nutrition.

Meals will be served in the host kitchen in the Indian way of sitting on the floor.

Wastage is minimized as much as possible; biodegradable waste is used to make compost for vegetables and herbs organically grown on the land, while non-biodegradable waste is recycled through the local rag pickers.

    • Fitness: To reach the homestay, you have to walk up for 10-15 minutes on steps and stone mountain paths. The staff will be happy to help you with your luggage.
    • Pets: Pets are not allowed.
    • Water: Carry a good water bottle. Natural source water is available at the house for refilling your bottle. Refrain from buying numerous plastic mineral water bottles.
    • Alcohol: Not provided. You can carry your own.
    • Pack your bags with environmentally friendly things. Carry as little plastic as possible.
    • Do not litter or leave behind any non-biodegradable waste. Carry it to the cities where better waste management systems are in place.
    • What you wear has an impact. Dress appropriately, especially when you walk into the villages.
    • Respect the local culture and refrain from physical intimacy in public places.
    • Local food is great. Try it as much as possible and avoid packaged food. Ask for modifications in the food according to your taste, instead of wasting it.
    • Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and refrain from drugs, especially in public places.
    • Seek permission before photographing people, so as to respect their privacy.
    • Do not pluck any plants and flowers, and do not disturb the wildlife.
    • Sunscreen, sunhat
    • Walking /Trekking shoes
    • Torch / flashlight
    • Warm jacket, woolen cap, gloves.
    • Umbrella, raincoat
    • Floaters / slippers.
    • Books to read and write, stationery to paint and draw, basically anything you love to do and never get the time for
    • Binoculars for bird watching
